Pett Cottage, Canterbury

After purchasing this historic dwelling, unoccupied for 2 years, the clients decided it was the perfect time for a complete transformation; double the buildings size with a large extension, whilst preserving its cherished original features.

The property underwent a full remodel, including new structural and insulated slab flooring with underfloor heating across both the first and second floors. Tim Day Construction built a two-sided fireplace with a traditional brick chimney breast to feature in the open plan living area.

The roof was reconfigured with eco-friendly Steicoflex wood fiber insulation (an eco-friendlier version of traditional roof insulation), and sustainability is further embraced with solar panels and an air source heat pump.

Many homeowners prefer to preserve the character and heritage of their current homes by renovating or extending them, rather than starting anew. This 30-week project is a perfect example of how extension projects can be utilised to adjust a property, specific to a client’s needs, whilst maintaining its historical charm.
